Pills and dragons
Opmeer came up with the idea when he saw how his mother found it difficult every day to take her medication on time. He found out that incorrect use of medication is a growing problem. So his water bottle with a built-in pillbox is useful. “I soon realised that, if I really wanted it to be a success, I’d need a product range.” So more money was needed to invest and Opmeer decided to sign up for the TV show Dragons’ Den.
Green light
“During the programme, I got a nice promise from Mr. Perridon but the deal on television is really just the green light for negotiations. The next step is an audit of the books: business plans, revenue, valuation, patents…You name it. It took us five months before everything was sorted out and Mr. Perridon joined us as a co-shareholder.”
Sparring partners
“Hoek en Blok was a fantastic help during that period. Mark van Valen and Julian Pieper tackled all aspects of the share transaction. From the valuation of the company to all the legal contracts and the arrangements with the tax authorities. They were my sparring partners. They contributed a lot of knowledge from the different disciplines at Hoek en Blok but, at the same time, they got involved with my challenges as a business person. That worked really well and so I asked them to draw up my financial statements from now on and to take care of all tax matters.”
